david was born April 30th 1956, In St John’s Newfoundland. He lived his early years and attended school in Canada, Germany, Japan, Greece and Taiwan. He attended high school at Taipei American School in the Republic of China. David went on later after his dad’s retirement to attend The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he studied drawing, design and color . . . He became interested in drawing and design while living in Japan. He was greatly impressed by the growing Japanese graphic works and industrial design of the 1960’s. Traditional Japanese painting and examples of ancient calligraphy were plentiful and these attracted his early attention. After moving to the Island of Crete in the Mediterranean , his interests shifted from the Eastern traditional and contemporary art forms of Japan to those of the more classical Greek Mediterranean middle eastern cultures. Living in a centralized location in the Mediterranen presented many opportunities observe and explore art from all the neighboring countries. Grecian, Egyptian, Jewish, Turkish, Jordanian, Italian, Saudi Arabian, Libyan, Moroccan and Spanish museums were visited often and the art that they contained added a new dimension to his informal education in art and culture. Three years later, another family transfer again helped him to replenish his artistic outlook. His family moves to Taiwan and a completelty different slower way of life gave him time to pay closer attention attention to himself and his artistic pursuits and adventures. What he learned of traditions, customs and ways of life in his past became a reality to him there. It was here he learned to enjoy the techniques he would need to feed his curiosity about the art that was all around him . . .
